Introduction

Initially, the jurisdiction of this centre was the four southern states i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala along with Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu, Pondicherry, Andaman Nicobar and Lakshadweep. Later, the responsibility of the programmes of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep was handed over to the Mysore Centre. The programmes of Gujarat, Daman and Diu were earlier operated by the headquarters which are now being operated by the Ahmedabad Centre. Thus, at present, the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Centre includes the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Pondicherry and Andaman Nicobar.

Hyderabad Centre organizes short term refresher courses for in-service Hindi teachers of primary, secondary, middle and colleges (postgraduate) in its area of operation. Through these refresher courses , teachers are introduced to new techniques of language teaching and efforts are made to keep them constantly aware of the use of standard Hindi.

'Samanvay Dakshin' magazine is published from Hyderabad centre. This magazine publishes research articles on literature, language, education, society and culture related to South India. This magazine is included in the UGC CARE list.

Refresher courses are organized for Hindi teachers from primary to higher level in the states under the jurisdiction of the center and for the voluntary organizations of the Central Government, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Ashram Pathshalas, Chinmaya Vidyalayas and voluntary organizations like Hyderabad Hindi Prachar Sabha, Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha etc. Apart from this, this center has been organizing applied courses for the employees of the organizations of the Central Government like Railway Department, Postal Department, Finance Department etc.

In 1976, the second regional centre of the Central Hindi Institute and the first in South India was established in Hyderabad. This centre organises two-week short-term refresher programmes for Hindi teachers of schools/colleges and voluntary Hindi organisations, in which Hindi teachers are given practical knowledge of modern techniques of language teaching under the current environment of Hindi.
