Introduction

Kendriya Hindi Sansthan , Shillong was established in 1976. In 1978, this centre was shifted to Guwahati. It was again established in 1987. Under the promotion of Hindi, Shillong Centre conducts a refresher course (three weeks) for Hindi teachers and a 2-3 week Hindi teaching programme to impart practical knowledge of Hindi to Hindi teachers of Assam Rifles schools , Central Government employees and officers . The working areas of this centre are the states of Meghalaya , Tripura and Mizoram.

Shillong
Establishment

This centre was established in July, 1976. Due to some reasons, this centre was shifted to Guwahati in June, 1979. At that time its area of operation was Assam , Arunachal , Meghalaya , Mizoram , Manipur , Nagaland and Tripura. On the demand of the state of Meghalaya, it was again started in Shillong in September 1987. This time it was started in the campus of North Eastern Hill University , Shillong and its area of operation was determined as Meghalaya and Mizoram. Later Manipur was also added to the centre. Nagaland – After the establishment of a new centre of the institute in Dimapur, the area of operation of the centre was made Meghalaya , Mizoram and Tripura.
